BABYMOON Hamburg
Everyone wants to hold the Baby, but who holds the MAMA?
What is a Doula?
What is a doula? A doula (ancient Greek: servant of the woman) is a non-medical helper. Doulas see themselves as companions for pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium. She takes care of the mother before, during and after the birth of a child, supports the partner and helps both emotionally and physically to cope with the extraordinary situation. A Doula can guarantee continuous 1: 1 care during the birth. Doulas do not take on any medical activities and do not replace midwives or medical professionals. In some cultures, in addition to the midwife, one or more doulas are present to support the birth and complement the work of a midwife. Parents-to-be consciously choose a doula so that they can be looked after continuously and exclusively for the desired period of time.
What is a maternal carer?
Maternal carer means a professional carer for mother and child, including the care of other family members, during the period immediately following the birth, the puerperium/Babymoon. Today, family support is often not always available or guaranteed. Fathers are usually heavily involved in work and other family members often live further away. A maternal carer closes this gap in care. A maternal carer offers women who have recently given birth practical help after the birth of a baby so that mother and baby can get to know each other, get used to each other at home and recover from birth. The main task of a maternal carer is to support the mother in caring for her baby, to advise on health issues and to help her organize the household.
